The Christian churches preach, and pray, that we may inherit eternal life. That is a total misuse of the word ‘eternal’, which means something which has no end, and, crucially, no beginning. Not to be confused with ‘infinite’ which as mathematicians can tell you, does have a starting point, though no end. We are either eternal, or we are not; we cannot ‘begin’ at some stage to be eternal.
