The Cave

The people who lived in the Cave lived in the Darkness. They could see outside that there was light, but it never came into their cave. They asked their Chief to drive out the Darkness.

The Chief asked the River if it could wash out the Darkness. The River flooded the Cave, but when it went back, not only was there an enormous amount of mud and debris but the Darkness was still there.

The Chief next asked the Wind if it could blow away the Darkness. The Wind blew and blew. Everything moveable in the Cave was blown away, but after the Wind went away, the Darkness remained.

The Chief asked Fire if it could burn away the Darkness. The Fire burnt so fiercely that everything in the Cave blackened. Although the Darkness was less where the fire was, there was still a lot of darkness remaining, and after the Fire went out the Darkness returned as dark as before.

The Chief then asked the Sun if it could drive out the Darkness. So the Sun came to the Cave and looked in. It asked ‘What Darkness? Where is it?’.

Where there is Light, there cannot be Darkness.
